SKILLS AND VALUES

Entrepreneurship, Civic, and Global Service and Responsibility
Demonstrate civic responsibility, global awareness, and a commitment to service

The final skill and value is a subject that should be common sense. People should be mindful of each other and the world they are apart of. There is always too much anger in the world, but there is also many instances of selflessness and unity that go unnoticed. I try to lead my life with an optimistic attitude toward life and the people around me. My ideal job would have me working with projects that bring the community together through intellectual and sustainable practices.

This is a value that Texas A&M is very proud about. Texas A&M is known for having the largest single day devoted to service to the community, Big Event. I love taking part in Big Event each year to give back to those who are less fortunate than myself, and this is a practice I want to strive to continue when I graduate.

While in Landscape Architecture, I got the unique opportunity to be in a class where we worked on a project in Africa with Ubrica. Ubrica’s mission is to organize investments in high quality human resources, materials and technologies for developing world-class life-science and health-care (LSHC) in Africa.  We had a member of Ubrica come from Kenya to be with us all semester to review our projects. This was a joint class between Landscape Architecture and Architecture undergrads. I was in a group of two Landscape Architects and two Architects. The project was an entire hospital community in Kenya with different districts like residential, agricultural, educational, industrial, and more. My group was responsible for designing the agricultural part of the project to supply the community with food and research into healthier agricultural practices. This project taught me so much about another part of the world and we got the amazing opportunity to show our project to people from Kenya.
